Wedding band Workshop
A Lasting Symbol of Your Journey Together

The warmth of molten metal, the sound of a hammer striking, the feeling of stamping a mark into a ring, and the smiles shared along the way.
At Journey, we offer workshops where you can take part in the process of creating your own wedding bands and experience the joy of making something with your own hands.
We hope this experience becomes a treasured chapter in your journey together and a lasting memory that will stay with you for years to come.
1.The Meaning of Creating Together
Wedding bands made by hand, with each partner thinking of the other throughout the process.
Is there anything more joyful, sincere, and beautiful than that?

It is not the destination ahead, but what truly matters are the experiences, memories, and moments along the way.
At Journey, we feel the same about creating wedding bands as we do about life. While the finished rings are, of course, precious, it is often the anticipation, excitement, and even the occasional uncertainty throughout the process that make them truly meaningful.
Those moments become part of the story, adding a unique richness to the rings you will carry with you for years to come.
A ring that allows you to remember how you felt in that moment, every time you see it and every time you wear it.
The starting point of your journey together.
It was with this idea in mind that we created this service—to offer rings that carry not only beauty, but the memories and meaning behind them.

What You'll Experience
(Advance Course)
One of the unique features of Journey's workshops is that we encourage you to take part in as many stages of the process as possible.
Rather than simply being guided through the experience, we want you to feel that these are truly wedding bands you created with your own hands.
For this reason, we offer opportunities to work directly with the materials from the very beginning, allowing you to experience the craft in a meaningful and hands-on way.
- ① Melting the Metal
- In this stage, precious metals such as gold or platinum are heated to high temperatures and melted to create the raw material for your ring.
Watching solid metal transform into liquid is a remarkable experience and a memorable moment that marks the beginning of the jewellery-making journey.

- ② Shaping
- The melted metal is gradually shaped into a ring by hammering, stretching, and carefully forming it by hand.
With each strike and movement, the ring begins to develop its own character, reflecting the unique touch of its maker.

- ③ Hand Stamping
- Add names, special dates, or meaningful messages to the inside of your ring.
By stamping words that are unique to the two of you, your Wedding bands become a truly one-of-a-kind symbol of your shared story.

- ④ Soldering
- Soldering is the process of joining separate pieces of metal using solder, which melts at a lower temperature than the ring itself.
It is one of the most important stages of ring making, transforming the metal into a complete circle and bringing the ring one step closer to its final form.

- ⑤ Texture
- In this stage, patterns and textures are added to the surface of the ring, giving it a unique character and appearance.
Finishes such as hammered textures and matte surfaces can dramatically change the way the ring reflects light, creating a distinct look that reflects your personal style.

Bark
Textured Finish

Artisan
Asato Philip Tanaka
I have spent many years creating jewellery for a variety of jewellery brands, and before moving to Okinawa, I also ran a jewellery-making school in Tokyo.
I enjoy sharing the craft of jewellery making with others, and I strive to create a relaxed and welcoming environment where anyone can feel comfortable, regardless of their experience level.
As a bilingual speaker of both Japanese and English, I am happy to welcome visitors from around the world and help make their workshop experience enjoyable and memorable.

3.Workshop Experience & Customer Reviews

"We were also invited to take part in the process ourselves by adding the engraving, and we gladly accepted the opportunity.
It was incredibly moving to feel as though the two of us and the craftsperson were creating the rings together. That experience made our Wedding bands even more meaningful and special to us."

"This workshop and ring-making experience was so wonderful that five stars simply aren't enough.
The artist and instructor who guided us through the workshop was exceptional. With a wealth of experience and knowledge, he generously answered every question we had about the ring-making process, the metals and gemstones used in jewellery, and the craft itself.
True to its name, this workshop offered a genuine journey into ring making and the artistry behind it. It was an opportunity not only to create something meaningful, but also to gain a deeper appreciation for the craftsmanship involved.
We wholeheartedly recommend this studio and workshop. Thank you for such a memorable experience."
4.FAQ
-
Are there any additional costs besides the workshop fee?
-
In addition to the workshop fee (which covers use of the studio and support throughout the process), the cost of the ring materials is charged separately.
The final price will vary depending on the material, width, and design of your Wedding bands. We will be happy to propose options that suit your preferences and budget.
-
Do we make the entire ring ourselves?
-
We will support you with any complex steps and the final finishing work.
No prior experience is required. We will guide you through the process so that you can enjoy creating your Wedding bands with confidence.
-
Can we take our Wedding bands home on the same day?
-
For simpler designs, it may be possible to take your Wedding bands home on the same day.
However, if additional processes such as stone setting or special finishing are required, the rings will be completed and delivered at a later date, typically within two weeks.
-
Is Mokumegane available for the workshop?
-
We are sorry, but Mokumegane is not available as part of our workshop experience.
Mokumegane is a highly specialised technique that requires the precise bonding and manipulation of multiple layers of metal to create its distinctive patterns. The process is technically demanding and requires careful quality control throughout production.
At Journey, we place great importance on creating jewellery that can be worn and enjoyed for many years. For this reason, all Mokumegane pieces are crafted exclusively by our artisan.
We do, however, offer bespoke Mokumegane Wedding bands and jewellery. If you are interested in a custom-made piece, please feel free to contact us.
-
Is a reservation required?
-
Yes, all workshops are by appointment only.
If possible, we ask guests to visit us on two separate occasions.
The first visit is for a consultation, where we discuss the design, size, and materials for your Wedding bands. Once the design has been finalised, we will prepare the necessary materials before the workshop date.
If visiting in person is difficult, design consultations can also be arranged online.
The second visit is the workshop itself, where you will create your Wedding bands together. We invite you to relax and enjoy this special experience at your own pace.
