Bespoke Jewellery by Journey

A Journey to Discover the Shape That Is Uniquely Yours

At Journey, we offer a bespoke jewellery service centred around wedding bands and engagement rings, creating each piece from the ground up based on your ideas, wishes, and personal story.

For those seeking something beyond ready-made designs and patterns, we transform meaningful memories, shared experiences, and personal stories into one-of-a-kind jewellery through skilled craftsmanship and careful attention to detail.

1.The Meaning Behind Bespoke

Beyond Bespoke

When searching for wedding bands, you will almost certainly come across the term “custom-made” or “made to order.”

The appeal is clear: rather than choosing a ready-made design, you can create something that feels uniquely your own.

However, many custom-made wedding bands are still created within a predefined framework, where customers select from a range of existing options and combinations.

At Journey, we take a different approach. That is why we use the word “Bespoke.”

Bespoke|A Design Born from Conversation

Although the term is not yet widely known in Japan, the word “bespoke” originates from the English phrase “be spoken” and carries the meaning of something created through conversation.

At Journey, we begin by listening carefully. Through thoughtful dialogue, we explore the shape that is uniquely yours and bring it to life together.

Creating wedding bands marks the beginning of a new journey together.

Our hope is that, with rings crafted with care and intention, you can step into your future with confidence, carrying a reminder of what matters most to you both.

Artisan
Asato Philip Tanaka

Alongside my own artistic practice, I have spent many years developing my skills with a bespoke wedding band brand in Tokyo and a fine jewellery brand in Australia, learning a wide range of techniques from both Eastern and Western traditions.

Yet, just as important to me as craftsmanship is conversation.

Through careful consultation, I seek to uncover wishes and ideas that clients may not yet have discovered themselves. By listening, interpreting, and transforming those thoughts into design, I am able to create pieces that feel deeply personal and meaningful.

This process is not only one of my greatest strengths as a artisan, but also one of the most rewarding parts of my work.

2.Where Eastern and Western Craft Meet

At Journey, we combine a variety of jewellery-making techniques to help bring each client's idea to life.

By blending different approaches and craft traditions, we strive to create pieces that not only fulfil expectations, but offer something truly memorable and meaningful.

Materials

We work with a wide range of materials, from precious metals such as platinum, gold, and silver to alternative metals including titanium and tantalum.

We also offer the creation of custom alloys tailored to specific design requirements.

For gemstones, we can source and work with everything from natural diamonds and lab-grown diamonds to a wide variety of coloured gemstones, selecting materials that best suit your idea and preferences.

Forging

At Journey, our rings are primarily crafted using the traditional forging method.

Forging is a technique that strengthens metal by repeatedly hammering, compressing, and shaping it, creating a denser internal structure. This process enhances both strength and durability.

Because forged rings are highly resistant to deformation and are better able to maintain their beauty over time, forging is considered one of the finest methods for creating wedding bands designed to be worn for a lifetime.

Mokumegane

Journey is one of the few studios in Okinawa to offer Mokumegane jewellery.

We have spent many years exploring and refining this traditional Japanese metalworking technique, preserving its craftsmanship while bringing it into contemporary jewellery design.

With its distinctive patterns created by layering different metals, Mokumegane offers a truly one-of-a-kind way to express your individuality and the story you share together.

Hawaiian-Style Engraving

We are also skilled in hand engraving, a refined decorative technique often associated with Hawaiian jewellery.

Using specialised engraving tools, intricate patterns and lines are carefully carved into the surface of the metal by hand. This technique allows for a wide range of expressions, from flowing curves and botanical motifs to geometric designs, creating distinctive highlights and shadows that come to life in the light.

At Journey, we can also create original engraving patterns and motifs tailored to your individual story and idea.

Stone Setting

We use a wide range of stone-setting techniques, carefully selected to complement the character of each gemstone and the overall design.

These include traditional prong settings, where the stone is held securely by claws, and bezel settings, where the gemstone is encircled by a thin bezel. We also work with more intricate techniques such as pavé settings, which create a continuous field of sparkle using multiple small gemstones, and bead settings, where stones are delicately secured with tiny raised beads.

By choosing the most suitable setting for each piece, we ensure a balance of beauty, durability, and wearability.

Hand Stamping

Hand stamping is a traditional technique in which a craftsperson uses a hammer to strike individual metal stamps, imprinting letters, numbers, or symbols onto the inside of a ring or other jewellery piece one character at a time.

Unlike modern laser engraving, hand-stamped markings often have greater depth, character, and a subtle sense of craftsmanship that reflects the touch of the maker.

At Journey, we also offer a workshop where you can experience hand stamping for yourself and add a personal touch to your jewellery.

Ms. I

"From the very beginning, every detail of our request and every idea we had for the design was met with genuine care and attention. We felt listened to throughout the entire process, which gave us great confidence and peace of mind.

The atmosphere of the studio was also wonderful. Everyone was warm, welcoming, and attentive, creating an environment where we felt truly comfortable and understood. Their hospitality made the experience not only enjoyable, but genuinely exciting.

Looking back, the time we spent together throughout the process feels just as valuable and memorable as the jewellery itself."

Ms. A

"Journey created our Wedding bands, and as it was our first experience commissioning jewellery, we arrived at the studio feeling both excited and a little nervous.

Having discovered Journey through Instagram, we already had some ideas about the design we wanted. During the consultation, everything was explained in great detail, from the differences between materials (in our case, white gold and platinum) to how various ring widths would affect the overall appearance.

The thoughtful guidance and welcoming atmosphere made it easy for us to talk openly and ask questions, and we quickly felt confident in choosing Journey.

We were also able to discuss our budget from the beginning and received a quotation before making any decisions, which gave us great peace of mind throughout the process."
